This cafe has been closed for years and the wall is evolving;- weeds are taking hold and the fly posters are thriving. I made some small alterations and thought it might be fun to switch the lights on.

Light and texture. I've always admired this degraded wall – Almost ready to collapse – and thought I'd better paint it before it's gone. It's another example of man verses nature which is a theme I'm always exploring but I wouldn't want it to be done up as it's such a local characteristic. Oh and it's home to a multitude of insects.
Gouache on board (100cm x 70cm) € 5000
I'm very pleased with this painting which I feel captures the character and atmosphere of this battered old town.
The steps wind their way up the hill past the “stations of the cross” to a now abandoned convent from which there are awesome views over Felanitx – views which are sadly too detailed for me to paint. (I only have have so much patience!) The climb can be a sweaty one but the picnic spot makes it worth it.
Gouache on board (100cm x 70cm) € 6500
This is San Salavador – our local mountain and not the first time I´ve painted it, but it is the biggest do far, intended to capture the surprising lushness of this dry island. A study in greens.
Gouache on board (100cm x 70cm) € 6000
After completing some recent commissions, I must say it was a joy to do something of my own. The post and the seawater didn't actually exist but I found a real freedom in using paint to invent a world from my imagination.
Gouache on board (67cm x 22cm) € 925
Yet another rooftop view over some gardens. I was quite taken with this aged pine trunk that seemed like a totem pole with bondage problems
Gouache on board (60cm x 20cm) € 1500
Another distorted reflection but hopefully capturing a little bit more of the atmosphere of this likeable workaday town. Thanks due to our local antiques dealer.
Gouache on board (69cm x 49cm) € 1500
One see's these artfully balanced stones on pebbly beaches world wide – very Zen.
I thought I'd go the extra mile with impossible constructions that wouldn't work in nature,
including a ridiculously high one just for fun.
You know what I'm like!
Gouache on board (69cm x 20cm) € 600
I enjoyed painting “House of Games” so much that I decided on a sequel! Using ideas I developed making the first piece that I didn't use, it has turned out a lot more surreal. After covid, the war in Ukraine and a personal bereavement, I feel that I – like everyone else deserves a little escapism from time to time.........
Gouache on board (68cm x 48cm) € 6000
My eye is drawn by the twisted abstraction of reflections. This float or buoy was bobbing about in the harbour at Portocolom and I feel mischievously pleased by the final awkward composition.

As my wife will attest, I frequently experience vivid dreams and consequently I'm often drawn to painting in a more surrealist manner. (There's more than a touch of surrealism in all my work) In this piece I explored the idea of three viewpoints from three internal spaces and as usual it did nothing at all for my mental state but was bloody good to illustrate.

When one is locked up and going stir crazy, why not paint a magnificent eagle? - It's such a symbol of soaring freedom and absolute joy to work on. I'd like to thank the anonymous photographer who inspired this image and I look forward to getting out and about to find my own source material.

As a very young boy, I was terrified of owls – they were of the night and even their calling scared me. None of this was helped by my dad telling me that unless I went to sleep, they would look in through the window!
I'm alright now – in my autumn years – and I'm proud of this painting of a piercing stare from one of the more diminutive of those lovely birds. I enjoyed it.

I've been meaning to get around to this painting for quite sometime. Like all Mediterranean towns, Felanitx has an abundance of wires and cables festooned from the facias of its buildings to supply mains electricity, internet etc. I always find them redolent of vines or climbing plants and hence this image of “leaves” sprouting from the towns umbilicus...

Every Sunday for 51 weeks of the year, this lovely humble town holds a market that spreads up various characterful streets. It attracts locals, islanders and tourists alike and I've always enjoyed the activity, vibrancy and business. Finally I got around to painting a scene from it though not in my usual style – I wanted broader brushstrokes to capture how down to earth the event is. This lead to the idea of turning it into a poster – an echo of my earlier career as graphic designer. If it proves popular, I intend to make a small series, illustrating the true beauty of this area of Mallorca.

Still fascinated by flowers, this time I've simplified and exaggerated the shapes and I'm quite emamoured with the graphical starkness

A bit more of a graphical exercise, this one. Some pretty shrub or whatever on our roof terrace, the flowers of which I simplified a bit and reduced the background to a velvety black. Very pleased with this.
Gouache on board (69cm x 34cm) €1200
Our little garden is looking lovely at the moment and I'm particularly enjoying this plant's blooms, nodding and dancing in the warm Mediterranean breeze. This is an example of how much more saturated colour I'm using now, compared to the work I did in Cornwall.

Gouache on plywood panel (140cm x 100cm) €12000
A simple enough composition with the usual abstract elements and an “awkward” layout. This is typical of so many Felanitx streets and I continue to appreciate the contrast between rough crumbling facades and the perfect blue sky.
Gouache on board (49cm x 69cm) €800
More gallery flowers. These white roses were well past their best but I find just as much beauty in these crinkly dried – out specimens. Not so much dying as elegantly wasted.
Gouache on board (70cm x 36cm) €2000
Every week we buy some fresh cut white flowers for the gallery and on this occasion two heads dropped off. I popped them into an old sugar jar and liked the look so much I decided on a forma still life of them – painting the distortions in the glass crossed my eyes a bit...

I’ve been meaning to get around to this for some months now. I spend a lot of time looking up at the wondrous blue sky that we usually have here, and this local chimney pot seems to be pointing in the right direction. They’re not dirty marks amidst the clouds but swifts that scream across town and slice up the air every summer
Gouache on board (70cm x 48cm) €1500
Ooh, another dark, dusty, barn! I like all the signs of age on what is presumably a cherished servant. I’m sure it still runs but I exaggerated the distorted lines and the cobwebs and thought the sun shining on the headlamps made it look as if it was running. Random thoughts came into my head about elephants and mice – the agricultural behemoth and a tiny symbol of nature.
…… It’s a wood mouse, incidentally.
Gouache on board (68cm x 50cm) €5000
I’m drawn to dusty, abandoned, silent places where any od junk could be a treasure. This old cart didn’t quite fit in to the building so I got to play with a bit of perspective.
Gouache on board (49cm x 69cm) €5000
On our roof terrace, we have been making a small garden, complete with waterfall and pond. (All very tasteful – no gnomes!)
By the pond are these lilies which look fantastic with the sun shining through them and reflecting off them.
These two paintings are attempts at conveying the lovely abstract folds and light effects.
Gouache on board (68cm x 30cm) €1200
They closed the railways here at one point and presumably sold all the old sleepers. These formed part of a fence of a private estate near Calas de Mallorca – weathered, gnarled and suggestive of old men grumbling about modern life.
Gouache on Board (50cm x 70cm) €2100
A lot of my work can run in series as I explore a certain theme. These two excitingly twisted examples look nice and stark against the Mallorquian blue sky.
Gouache on Board (36cm x 44cm) €1800
Gouache on Board (49cm x 69cm) €2400
The limestone here is shot through with holes and miniature caverns (like the island itself) and provides tiny homes for all manner of life. Here a plant clings on where there’s seemingly no sustenance and is straining towards the sun.
Gouache on Board (50cm x 20cm) €900
I’m always been drawn to junk yards and their strange juxta positions of bits and pieces. Here, my eye was caught by the sun illuminating the glass bottles and picking out small details amongst the other stuff.
Gouache on Board (56cm x 38cm) €5000
Where we used to live in Calas De Mallorca sitting in the front garden, the light caught this common weed in such a way that I had to paint it. An ordinary Englishman is not used to such light and heat on Christmas day.
